For Such a Time as This: An Invitation to Come to the Table 2019
By Amaury Tañón-Santos
One of the most important values found throughout the Synod’s New Way Forward is community. With the adoption of the New Way Forward in 2013, the Synod committed itself to reducing governance in order to free up time and resourcing for missional innovation, networking, and structural transformation. As part of this commitment, Synod Assembly became a biennial event, meaning that the Assembly now conducts business only once every two years. However, the Synod has continued to meet annually as the larger community of Presbyterians in New England, New Jersey, and New York. On the opposite year as Assembly the Synod gathers at Come to the Table.
The third installment of Come to the Table is scheduled for November 8-9, 2019 at the Stony Point Center in Stony Point, NY. The planning team is hard at work designing the experience focused on worship, joint learning – with a mission fair, and two 1½-hour-long workshop sessions on three tracks – and fellowship. The theme around which our Synod community will gather is For Such a Time as This: Change, Crisis, & Opportunity.
All of our learning opportunities – from large group sessions, to workshops, and the mission fair – will be led by leaders from throughout our regional community. We are pleased to announce that our main speaker/teacher will be the Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis (New York City), co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, and our preacher will be the Rev. Cindy Kohlmann, the resource presbyter for the Boston and Northern New England presbyteries and a co-Moderator of the 223rd General Assembly.
Please mark your calendar to join us, and RSVP on our Facebook event page. Official registration will open soon, and we will be sharing workshop themes and leaders through the next months.
We are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead of us and looking forward to our time together this fall!
